Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Bites Recipe
Ingredients:
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
8 slices of ham (cut into small squares)
1 cup shredded or sliced cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or Gruyere)
1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
1 tbsp water (to mix with egg)
Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Roll and Cut Puff Pastry:
Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet to a 10×10 inch square.
Cut the pastry into small squares (around 3×3 inches).
3. Assemble the Bites:
Place a piece of ham and a small portion of cheese in the center of each square.
Fold the pastry over the filling, forming a triangle or a rectangle, and press the edges lightly to seal. You can use a fork to crimp the edges for added security.
4. Egg Wash:
Mix the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water.
Brush the egg wash over the top of each pastry to give it a golden finish.
5. Bake:
Arrange the pastries on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
6. Garnish and Serve:
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color.
Serve warm and enjoy the melty, flaky goodness!
Tips:
Add a touch of Dijon mustard inside for extra flavor.
These bites can be made ahead and stored in the freezer; just bake directly from frozen, adding a couple of minutes to the bake time.
Perfect as an appetizer or snack, these ham and cheese puff pastry bites are sure to impress!
